The UAE authorities have warned citizens and residents to take social distancing seriously. Health authorities in the country have emphasised time and again the importance of social distancing. However, it was revealed that there were atleast 30 new cases as a result of a violation of the rules.
It was revealed that the latest confirmed cases include 30 people from two families who had held a family gathering – including a baby under the age of two months and several elderly people.
During the evening Covid-19 briefing, Arabian Business reports Dr. Amna Al Dahak Al Shamsi, official spokesperson of the UAE Government, as saying: “Our commitment should be in the form of actions rather than words. We should protect our loved ones, our fathers, mothers, and senior citizens, who are more vulnerable to infection than others.”
“Thirty of the new cases infected with Covid-19 belong to two families who broke social distancing and held a family gathering that got them infected. The infected cases include a two-month-old infant and a number of elderly people,” said Al Shamsi.
While the government has relaxed quarantine measures, things are most definitely not back to normal. Dr Al Shamsi stressed that residents and citizens have to maintain social distancing as a “national duty” which will overcome the current pandemic and that easing of the restrictions does not mean gatherings in private or public areas should take place.
Gatherings of over five people are not allowed.
There are currently 15,738 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UAE and a total of 157 deaths.
