We’ve all trudged down to Festival City’s IKEA on a weekend and waited in those long, never-ending lines at the till that snake all around the storage area. Well, now just maybe the lines might get a little bit shorter considering that Dubai will have not one but two IKEA stores in town, one of which is said to be the largest one for the brand in the region.
Because having just one store in the emirate wasn’t enough, the Swedish home furnishing giant is opening another IKEA store in Dubai, and it’s set to be the biggest one in the region. It also has a 500-seater IKEA café, the first in the world.
The new store opened on Wednesday December 18, alongside the new Festival Plaza Mall. It will be based in Al-Futtaim’s Festival Plaza in Jebel Ali and will be spread over 30,000 m sq with a massive focus on sustainability. It will also have an international training centre for IKEA employees.
For its big opening, the store will be giving the first 1,000 visitors the chance to win gift vouchers worth Dhs1,000 to spend at the store.
But there’s a catch. Only 25 winners will be picked.
