Selena Gomez has opened up about her struggles regarding her health. The 27-year-old pop star suffers from Lupus.
In a recent interview with the Giving Back Generation, Gomez explained that suffering from the disease – an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation around the body – gave her nightmares. She also said that she experiences huge fluctuations in weight, which was picked up on by the wider internet.
The singer said she felt let down when people started to attack her for gaining weight, especially when they did not know what she was going through.
“[My weight] depends on even the month, to be honest,” said Gomez, “So for me, I really noticed when people started attacking me for that. That got me big time. That really messed me up for a bit,”
Gomez said she is on a number of medicines for Lupus, and high blood pressure.
The singer said being attacked online led to her leaving social media for a bit. And while Gomez is currently back on social media, she rarely looks back on her timelines.
“I don’t care to expose myself to everyone and hear what they have to say,” Gomez explained. The singer also warned people that it’s not worth being “demolished by an image or body type that they are trying to chase.”
