The box office is nearing a billion dollars worldwide

Joker is not only Warner Bros. highest grossing film of the year but now it’s the all-time highest grossing comic book-based movie ever. The movie has grossed a worldwide box office take of US $957 million.

But this really doesn’t come as a surprise. Despite the bashing the film received from sceptics, in October this year, the movie crossed $737.5 million worldwide and pushed out Deadpool from the highest grossing R-rated film. Forbes confirmed that as of Friday, November 8, Joker grossed more than a $304.2 million in North America, and a staggering $957 million worldwide.

When you think about the budget of $62.5 million, the movie was made on, the worldwide take of almost a billion dollars must come as a happy surprise for the filmmakers.

This makes the film already more profitable than other films Warner Bros has circulated this year. These films include Shazam! with a gross of US $364 million, Detective Pikachu with US $431 million and even IT: Chapter 2 at US $445 million.

The film follows Arthur Fleck, a failed comedian with a variety of mental health issues. In the film, we gradually see Fleck descend into madness and resort to crime as a way to fightback against the society that has oppressed him for so long. The film is highly violent and comes at a time in the world where the gun crime the film portrays is all too real in our own society.
