Google has made several changes to its tablet and computer version of YouTube. The new features – which were made over the weekend – will now start rolling out across the world.
The goal is to allow users to do more in less time. That means no more having to navigate to a particular channel to watch a particular video.
In terms of form, video thumbnails will be bigger, and title texts can be longer. Thumbnails will also have more features, and will automatically preview the video when a user moves the mouse over them. Users will also be able to ‘queue’ videos for later, without having to first visit the watch page.
Also, the icon of the channel will now appear next to every thumbnail, so that users can better identify the source of every video.
You can also now delete suggestions for particular channels that a user might not want to watch. While the functionality is already available on mobile, this marks the first time the features has jumped over to the computer.
Google has said that personalisation is next on its YouTube agenda. It wants to make sure that whenever users visit the YouTube.com homepage, they will find custom videos and subjects unique to them.
