Paul McCartney is probably the coolest grandad you wish you had. His grandchildren – all eight of them – certainly think so. Now, the ‘Grandude’ himself is the author of a children’s picture book, aptly titled, ‘Hey Grandude’.
The title has been inspired by the Beatles’ famous song ‘Hey Jude’, and the book follows the adventures of Grandude, an ‘intrepid explorer grandfather’, and his four grandkids.
Their adventures include riding flying fish, dodging stampedes, and escaping avalanches, according to Penguin.
McCartney said to the BBC that the name came about courtesy of his grandchild who just thought up the name Grandude and the rest is history.
“One of my grandkids – who used to call me ‘Grandad’ – just happened one day to say ‘Grandude’ and it kind of stuck,” McCartney said. “So the other kids started calling me ‘Grandude’.”

However the 77-year-old crooner emphasised to the BBC that “he (grandude) is magic and I am not”.
The book has been completed in collaboration with artist Kathryn Durst who created the illustrations.
He joins a long list of other internationally acclaimed singers who are now authors of children’s books including Bob Dylan, Keith Richards and Madonna.
