She may not be a TV star anymore, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t exist on the show

*Spoilers for Suits ahead*

Before Meghan Markle was the Duchess of Sussex, she was Rachel Zane in the hit legal-drama Suits.

As you may expect, once she became royalty, actual royalty and not TV royalty, she had to put her scripts back in the drawer and give up her career as an actress.

Markle now a ‘Princess of the UK’ was one of the lead characters in Suits playing the ambitious Rachel Zane who ascended the ranks of her law firm and eventually became the wife of the other main character Mike Ross.

Unfortunately there’s an unofficial rules for immediate royals not working in Hollywood so she could not juggle both this role and the role of Duchess which meant she disappeared from the show for good. At the end of the previous season, Rachel and Mike moved to Seattle for good, bidding farewell to fans and stars of the show alike.

Turns out Markle’s influence is still looming over the show as the writers managed to muscle in an ode to the former-star in the latest season.

In an almost fourth wall breaking joke, Ross makes a brief return to his old office and when asked by lawyer Katrina Bennett how Rachel is doing he says: “Good, in fact, if I told you how good you probably wouldn’t believe me.”

Just to make sure fans really got the joke, Suits’ twitter retweeted the moment and reiterated how well Rachel is doing, along with a winky face for good measure.

While it’s not quite the same level as the Queen parachuting out of a helicopter with James Bond for the 2012 Olympics, this is more of a cameo than we ever expected.

Here’s the video of the Queen parachuting by the way:
