She’s still not performing though

Nicki Minaj has started warming up to Saudi Arabia, praising the country for giving women the right to travel freely.

Recently Minaj made waves across the entire internet in two bold announcements. The first was that she was headlining the Jeddah World Fest, a massive Saudi Arabian music fest, the second announcement was that she was pulling out of the festival.

Minaj decided to abandon the concert, which would have drawn in over 50,000 people, over concerns expressed by her fans on social media.

“After careful reflection I have decided to no longer move forward with my scheduled concert at Jeddah World Fest,” Minaj said in a statement by her publicist.

“While I want nothing more than to bring my show to fans in Saudi Arabia, after better educating myself on the issues, I believe it is important for me to make clear my support for the rights of women”.

Even more recently, Minaj has now praised the nation she once wanted nothing to do with. As the Kingdom has recently had a series of royal decrees allowing more freedom to women.

Saudi women now have the right to travel without male permission, allowing to leave the country and get a passport on their own accord. Women can now also be legal guardians to children, previously this was only reserved for men.

Minaj took to Twitter to share her appreciation of this news, she stated “There is still a long way to go but this made me happy.”

She also pointed out that popular media is perhaps unfair to Saudi, picking and choosing what to show. She urged everyone to share the news of the rights improvement more widely.
