It’s no secret that the social media spotlight has shifted, Facebook is out, everything else is in. Facebook’s current un-coolness is about to spread to your favourite apps though.
Facebook these days is not what it used to be, it serves as a periodical birthday reminder service, somewhere for angry people to share posts, and the occasional travel check in.
It’s safe to say Facebook is now uncool and anyone seen using it for anything other than Messenger is also uncool.
Often forgotten by a lot of people, Facebook owns both Instagram and WhatsApp, and it’s going to start reminding you about that.
WhatsApp 1.6 billion users will soon start seeing ‘WhatsApp from Facebook’ on their screens, as well as ‘Instagram from Facebook’. According to a Facebook spokesperson, “We want to be clearer about the products and services that are part of Facebook.”
According to The Information, the branding will remain the same on your homescreen, but may change in the Apple/Google store, as well as the splash page of the apps – this being the screen you see on booting up the apps.
Earlier this year, Facebook announced its game plan to integrate Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp into one super app. This is a step towards that mission, prepare yourselves folks.
There is currently no timeframe when we may see our go to apps become Facebook-ified.
