The first ever FIFA World Cup final took place in Uruguay, on this day 89 years ago, on July 30, 1930.
Uruguay was selected as the host nation, in celebration of the country’s 100 year anniversary of its first constitution. All matches were played in the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo.
The final was played between Uruguay and Argentina where the hosts won 4-2.
