One of New York’s most prolific restaurateur duo are splitting up. The duo’s Eleven Madison Park restaurant has won countless awards including Michelin stars and 2017’s World’s 50 Best Restaurant tag.
According to Eater.com though. their split has been the worst kept secret in New York’s restaurant industry. “Though representatives have denied the split for months, the story has grown to be one of the worst-kept secrets in the restaurant and hotel industries,” the website reports.
Guidara and Humm confirm to the New York Times that Humm will buy out Guidara and that the staff found out on July 29, 2018.
Humm will buy out his front-of-house partner Guidara, who revolutionalised the restaurants service, and take control of the parent company, Make It Nice, which owns Eleven Madison Park and NoMad.
The duo bought out the previous owner of Eleven Madison Park from Danny Meyer.
“Over the years, we’ve been together for the greatest highs and achieved so many of our shared goals. But as in many relationships – individuals grow apart. We’ve often referred to our partnership as a marriage and, as you all know, with any close relationship there are bound to be ups, downs and challenging moments. That is where we find ourselves now,” they wrote in their message to staff.
Guidara is married to Milk Bar’s founder Christina Tosi and will be developing a new hospitality group “with industry veterans he has wanted to work with for some time.”
Other projects the two overlook include the Nomad, the Nomad Bar, and Made Nice in New York, as well as locations of the Nomad in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. There are other projects currently underway as well, a restaurant at 425 Park Avenue and another in London, Davies and Brook in Claridge’s hotel, that’s set to open this summer.
According to the letter, the split will not affect any of these projects.
