Brad Pitt is on a full on, no holds barred publicity tour for his new Quentin Tarantino movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The new movie follows two actors in Hollywood at the time of the Manson family murders in 1969.
While discussing the murders in an interview with The Sunday Times, Brad Pitt compared the cultural impact of the Harvey Weinstein scandal to the Manson family murders.
At the turn of the decade in 1969, a cult led by Charles Manson killed nine people including a heavily pregnant Sharon Tate, who is played by Margot Robbie in the new movie.
When asked if there’s been a scandal or incident since that has hit Hollywood as much as the Manson murders did, Pitt told the Sunday Times: ‘Harvey Weinstein.’
He said: ‘Is that bad taste? It’s more that I think we’re getting recalibrated. But [this time] in a good way.’
Harvey Weintein has been accused by more than 80 women of sexual harassment, assault or rape. The scandal rocked Hollywood and resulted in the rise of the #MeToo movement, that led to a lot more similar cases being reported against many other actors and important figures in the film industry all over the world.
Pitt’s ex-girlfriend and actress Gweneth Paltrow has in the past publically spoken about her incident with Weinstein who made an inappropriate pass at her.
Brad Pitt opposed Weinstein at the time, and defended Paltrow whop quoted him as saying: “If you ever make her feel uncomfortable again, I’ll kill you.”
“I am so grateful to Brad, because he leveraged his power and fame to protect me, when I was no one, and he scared Harvey.”
