Menu for first Emirati astronaut’s space mission revealed

With all the space craze going on recently, have you ever been curious to know what astronauts eat in space? Or more specifically, what kind of meals will be offered during the UAE’s very first space mission?

The menu for the first Emirati astronaut’s space mission has been revealed and it features traditional Emirati dishes, all of which are halal, and processed in special pouches enabling consumption in space.

Some of the meals featured include canned halal salona (Emirati lamb stew), madrouba (salt-cured fish stew) , and balaleet, (sweetened vermicelli served with an omelette). All meals will be prepare by Space Food Laboratory, a Russian company that produces astronaut food for mass consumption.

The UAE’s very first space mission will take place on September 25, and the astronaut will be back on Earth on October 8.

Hazza Al Mansouri,will be launched to space on a Soyuz MS 15 spacecraft, making him the first ever Emirati in space. 

Al Mansouri will complete several experiments in space before returning back to earth. He was chosen as the main astronaut for the UAE’s first space mission back in April by the Mohammad Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC).

Prior to visiting space, Al Mansouri will be undertaking a scientific mission, studying the impact of microgravity, comparing it with gravity on Earth.
