A new traffic fine comes into force today (July 1) and it could see motorists receiving an AED3,000 traffic fine and their vehicle impounded.
The new law specifically states that all motorists must give way to emergency and police vehicles no matter what. The Abu Dhabi Police said on Sunday that they will begin implementing the new fines as of today.
The fine will be imposed on those who do not give priority to emergency vehicles, ambulances, the police or official processions along the emirate’s roads. The vehicle may also be impounded for 30-days, and motorists will receive six traffic points.

The ministry has said that starting today, all official vehicles will have cameras linked to the police’s command rooms. They will automatically record and tag drivers who do not give way to the emergency vehicles, and fines will be sent out automatically.
The move is to enhance the safety or roads, and reduce the number of deaths from traffic collisions, the police said.
