GCC rail is one of the most important economic development projects of the UAE

The new Etihad Rail project wants to connect up the emirates for both trade and – more importantly – transportation.

The project is expected to cost a whopping AED 4.4 billion, and will extend throughout the UAE all the way to Saudi Arabia’s border, making it a milestone to the UAE.

The project requires a huge amount of infrastructure work, including earth works, bridges, tunnels, animal-crossings and track-laying, as well as its design. Once completed, the railway sretch 1,200 Km long.

The new railway will connect the UAE’s main centres of industry, production manufacturing, as well as import and export points. Each stop will form an important part of the railway network throughout the GCC. The project – which seems like a long time coming – is being called one of the most important economic development projects in the UAE’s history.

Sheikh Theyab, Executive Council and Chairman of Etihad Rail ,expresses the importance of the UAE national railway network, “Etihad Rail will sustain the growth of our transport industry and freight carriage sector throughout the UAE, as railway systems are one of the most important means of transport on which countries depend to achieve their economic and social objectives.”

Does that mean the end of the UAE’s Superbus initiative? Sadly, yes.
