Toy Story 4 has just broken a record in the animated film world. Unsurprisingly, it now boasts the record for highest box office weekend internationally of an animated film. The number is just shy of a quarter of a billion dollars at $244.5 million. This is despite underperforming in places like the USA.
Toy Story 4 had a budget of anywhere between $190 and $200 million, this number is especially impressive if you put that against Endgame’s budget which was around $350 million. Endgame, a film which was one of the most visually complex creations in history, had a relatively similar astronomical budget to a relatively short animated film.
When you sink that much into a movie then, you’re probably certain it’ll make a profit, and Toy Story 4 has certainly done that. It now claims the record for the highest international box office weekend at $244.5 million. Incredibles 2 is in second place with $235.8 million. For those wondering, Toy Story 3 is in 7th place with $145.3 million.
If you’re ‘ANYBODY’ at Pixar then you would be overjoyed right? Well there’s a possibility the celebrations aren’t as big as you would guess. The film has actually underperformed against predictions. In the US, It was estimated to have a $140 million opening weekend, yet it actually managed ‘just’ $118 million. It’s said that the film also slumped in China though it did do well in European and Latin American markets.
We’ll have to wait and see if it reaches the $1 billion mark in ticket sales worldwide like its predecessor did. Chances are that it most definitely will.
