The 30 day SIM card comes as part of the collaborative ‘happiness’ project launched to improve tourists’ stay in Dubai

  • The ‘tourism sim pack’ will be given to all tourists over 18 years old at the Immigration counter, just bring along your passport and valid visit visa

  • The SIM will be valid for up to a month and allows for three-minute minute talk time and 20 MB of data for free, though add ons are available

  • The idea is thanks to a collaborative ‘happiness’ project launched by Du Telecommunications, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs, and Smart Dubai

If you’re an expat coming to Dubai, you probably know it can be initially difficult to feel at home, well the ‘happiness’ project may be to the rescue as tourists in Dubai can now get their hands on a free 30 day SIM card for their phone.

Dubai is a great place, but if you don’t know the right people or where to go, it can all be a bit alien and difficult to settle into. One hurdle that a lot of people have, especially expats coming over is getting their phones to work without racking up data bills more expensive than their plane tickets.

Thankfully, Du Telecommunications, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs, and Smart Dubai have thought of something. The free ‘tourist sim pack’ will give anyone over 18 with a transit visa, visit visa, visa on arrival or GCC citizens a SIM card for up to a month.

The SIM packs three-minute talk time and 20 MB of mobile data, as well as top up packages. The small, medium and large top up packages are as follows:

Small: Pay Dh25 and get 150 MB data – 10 flexible minutes, three-day validity.

Medium: Pay Dh55 and get 500 MB data – 20 flexible minutes, seven-day validity.

Large: Pay Dh110 and get 2 GB data – 40 flexible minutes and 14-day validity.

To bag this offer, simply head to Terminal 1, 2 or 3 at the airport with your passport and visa, and dial ‘*122#’ on your phone.
