The second limited edition Monaco is here and it’s red hot

As part of the iconic TAG Heuer Monaco’s 50th birthday, the brand is unveiling five special timepieces throughout the year

The piece was presented at an exclusive event in Le Mans, alongside Chad McQueen, Derek Bell and Jean-Eric Vergne

How long do you spend celebrating your birthday? A day, two, maybe a week at a push? Well the people at TAG Heuer are taking up an entire year to celebrate the 50th birthday of its most iconic creation, the Monaco watch. The brand just unveiled its second watch in a set of five to be shown throughout the year.

The Monaco was a piece unveiled in 1969, initially hated but now loved, the iconic piece is celebrating its 50th anniversary. First on the list was showing off the very first special edition at Monaco during the Monaco Grand Prix. Each watch is said to take inspiration from a timespan, the first watch being from 1969-1979.

Fast forward 10 years, or just a few weeks in terms of release date, we have the ‘1979-1989 Special Edition’, presented at an equally prestigious racing event, Le Mans 2019.

The new special edition doesn’t shy too far from the tried and tested Monaco formula, it still has a left sided crown, as well as a design that oozes sporty coolness. It’s the classic Monaco chronograph we’ve come to adore, this time in a super trendy hot-red colour as opposed to the usual blue.

The watch’s caseback is engraved with the ‘Monaco Heuer’ logo, as well as ‘1979-1980 Special Edition’ and also ‘One of 169’. The piece also comes in a special display box.

The watch was unveiled alongside Chad McQueen, son of the King of Cool himself. Also in attendance was Derek Bell, Patrick Dempsey and Jean-Eric Vergne.
