- The Cricket World Cup rivalry match is back with the anticipated India vs Pakistan match in Manchester
- To date, India has won all six times the two teams have met at a World Cup, making it an arch rivalry at this point
- Though patriotism is clearly king, it seems this year fans are more pragmatic, simply excited to see good cricket, with a lot of people watching out for stellar performances on both sides
One of the biggest sports matches of the year is here, India vs Pakistan in the Cricket World Cup. On Twitter of course, endless fans have come together for both teams, even the respective governments of the two countries are backing the game. Though some of the pragmatic testimonies of people here in the UAE may surprise you.
The support for the World Cup game may not be as easy as Indians supporting India and Pakistanis supporting Pakistan, it seems this year fans are just hoping for some good honest cricket, along with good weather conditions of course!
Looking at some of those speaking to the Khaleej Times, Nuzma Khadija, Indian expat, explains she’s hopeful for an Indian win of course, but particularly hopeful for Virat Kohli “who does the best batting” but that Saleem Malik of the Pakistani team is also “a good batsman.”
Likewise, Maria Al Balushi, Pakistani expat has said she is looking forward to particularly looking at the team’s captain Sarafaraz Ahmed but cannot deny that she is also curious about Virat Kohli on the other team. Saying that “he is pretty popular among the India team and all my Indian colleagues speak about him, so let’s hope for the best.”
Faiza Qureshi, Pakistani expat even goes onto say that Virat Kohli is someone she is excited to watch and that “he is our [Pakistan’s] favourite rival.”
So from the testimonies it seems like Cricket World Cup this year isn’t just as simple as rooting for your home team, it’s about rooting for good cricket over all, how lovely is that?
