Banksy muscles his way into the Venice Art Biennale this year
Dubbed ‘Venice in Oil’, the street artist put up his own installation unauthorised
The Venice Art Biennale is one of the largest art events globally, Banksy’s never been invited
His installation here shows a far more detailed and real picture than what fans of his street art may be used to
Banksy’s made his way to the Venice Art Biennale this year, but without an invitation, instead meeting the police at his pop up art show.
‘Biennale Arte 2019’ is one of the most prestigious art shows in the world, and takes place from May until November. It showcases some of the finest art around, and some of the most celebrated artists around. Banksy thowever is mad that never made the cut.
The mysterious man went to Instagram to share a video of his street art in Venice, dubbed ‘Venice in Oil’. The artist captioned the following, “Despite being the largest and most prestigious art event in the world, for some reason, I’ve never been invited”
His video, which is closing in on two million views in just 16 hours, shows the installation of an oil painted massive cruise ship surrounded by Venetian gondola boats. In usual Banksy fashion, the piece is made extra quirky by how the entire creation is split into separate painting in their own frames.
The Instagram clip also shows various people passing, taking interest in his unusual piece, said to be a direct political statement to the state of Venice right now and several other global plights such as refugee crises.
Such a detailed and powerful creation, surely the artist has proved his worth to be allowed into the prestigious event?
