Former UFC champion Cono McGregor has been arrested on strong-armed robbery and criminal mischief charges for smashing the cellphone of someone who was trying to take his photo, according to authorities.
Miami Beach Police report, according to ESPN detailed that McGregor was leaving the Fontainebleau Miami Beach shortly after 5 a.m. when a 22-year-old man attempted to take a picture of him. Police said McGregor slapped the phone out of the man’s hand and then stomped on it several times. Investigators said McGregor then grabbed the phone and left the area.
The Irishman was released on $12,500 bail later that night.
The champion’s attorney released a statement: “Early this morning Conor McGregor was involved in a minor altercation involving a cell phone that resulted in a call to law enforcement. Mr. McGregor appreciates the response of law enforcement and pledges his full cooperation.”
The BBC reported that last year McGregor was ordered by a court to undergo anger management training and perform five days of community service in return for the dropping of criminal charges for attacking a bus containing rival UFC fighters.
He was also suspended from UFC for fighting Khabib Nurmagomedov after their much publicised official fight in October.
In 2017, McGregor lost a boxing match to multiple world champion Floyd Mayweather.
