When the idea of a cross-promotional fight between undefeated boxing legend Flody Mayweather and the UFC‘s biggest star, Conor McGregor, was first mentioned the world laughed. In their respective sports, both fighters have made very large sums of money on the back of such hyperbole. But it couldn’t really happen…could it?
Well, the answer – if you read the headline of this piece correctly – is yes. Hell yes! As announced on Mayweather’s Instagram account today, the fight has been signed and sealed for August 26, at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Arena.
In what is expected to be the most-watched event in fight sports ever, Mayweather (with a flawless professional record of 49-0) starts as the heavy favourite, but the world will likely be tuning in to see if the loud-mouthed Irish MMA fighter can back up the smack-talking like he has done so many times before.
We for one cannot wait.
