For a while now, Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor have been going back and forth via social media, talk shows and news networks about fighting each other. The reason the bout has not yet been announced is, in simple terms, because we’re talking about two of fighting’s most egotistical and money-orientated people. So as you can imagine, big bucks are being requested from both parties. McGregor has reached international superstardom in the Mixed Martial Arts world like no one before, while Mayweather is one of the best boxers of all time, if not the greatest. Why would you not want to see them fight? Well, we’ve put together they three key reasons why they should sign on the dotted line.

1. Because it would be seriously interesting
With Mayweather having been a professional boxer his whole life, the bout would have to be boxing, but that raises some interesting questions. His astonishing record stands at 49-0 in the boxing world, and it would be a fair bet to assume that if they were to fight then his combinations would be simply too fast for McGregor. And on top of that we’ve all seen Mayweather in the ring. He’s close to impossible to hit, his head bobs around everywhere apart from where the opponents fist is trying to land. However, McGregor is significantly larger and this poses a power threat to Mayweather. The heavier a fighter’s natural weight class, the harder they hit. Fact. On top of this, McGregor would also have a two-inch reach advantage over Mayweather, allowing his ridiculous variety of counterstrike’s to take over.
2. Because the tension is too much
The feud between Mayweather and McGregor started on July 2nd 2015, when McGregor was promoting his fight against Chad Mendes at UFC 189, by talking on the Conan O’Brien show. He pondered the idea of fighting Mayweather and unsurprisingly declared, “If we we’re to get it on I would most certainly dismantle him.” Since then there have been crude retaliatory remarks from Mayweather and statements that he would only step out of retirement if it were to fight McGregor. There have also been recent offers from UFC president Dana White, $25 million for each fighter and a spilt of the Pay-Per-Views to be discussed, an offer that Mayweather laughed at. On top of that, McGregor has previously said things like, “He needs me, I don’t need him.” The pair have also taken numerous shots at each other on social media in the last year. This war of words needs resolving.
3. Because of the money
The biggest star of boxing and the biggest star of the UFC, with a year of history and slating behind it. If this fight was to happen it would most probably break all Pay-Per-View records ever seen in both sports. Of course, the money is not a factor for us fans, but it would be nice to watch history in the making. As we all know, money runs the fight business, be it boxing or MMA, and forgetting all social media and public comments, the potential numbers behind this fight will certainly push UFC president Dana White, as well as Floyd and his management, closer to making this fight happen.
