The creative director

The late Hardy Amies said it best when he declared: “A man should look as if he has bought his clothes with intelligence, put them on with care and then forgotten all about them.” Beyond this guiding principle, the formula for a stylish man is harder to pinpoint. So for 2017’s selection of the Esquire’s Best Dressed Men in the Gulf, we’ve looked at men who wear their clothes with a sense of individuality, confidence and consideration.

Anthony Caton
33, British, Creative Director/ PR Manager
Anthony Caton turns heads at most Dubai-based fashion events — always impeccably dressed but with a clear individuality embodied through his own menswear label, Caton Manifesto. Having started the brand five years ago, Caton boasts a variety of experience across PR, design and creative direction. “I’ve always had a strong personal visual identity and sense of style. Being a fashion PR manager I have always been surrounded by fashion, so it was a natural thing to begin my own brand.”

He describes his style as “modern, experimental and me.” Counting brands such as Paul Smith, Comme des Garçons Play, Benaiah Matheson, and, of course, his own Caton Manifesto, as his go-to fashion houses, you get a sense of his fun take on traditional tailoring and contemporary approach to design.

“Style is more important than fashion; trends come in waves, whereas good taste is timeless,” Caton explains. “So my look changes according to my moods rather than as a result of the influence of trends or seasons — I like to dress freely.”

His love and passion for his brand is obvious, his favourite item being his Caton Manifesto elongated double-breasted jacket, sans lapel.

So what does the future hold for this Dubai-based creative? “My dream is to have the Caton Manifesto in multiple luxury retail outlets around the globe.”
