The late Hardy Amies said it best when he declared: “A man should look as if he has bought his clothes with intelligence, put them on with care and then forgotten all about them.” Beyond this guiding principle, the formula for a stylish man is harder to pinpoint. So for 2017’s selection of the Esquire’s Best Dressed Men in the Gulf, we’ve looked at men who wear their clothes with a sense of individuality, confidence and consideration.

Wearing a suit well should be taught at school. It is arguably one of the most important life lessons any man will ever learn, and some never truly do. Yet Florin Iclodean makes it all look a bit too easy for our liking.
The made-to-measure specialist at Dubai’s newly opened Suitsupply store in City Walk, counts “T-shirts” as his biggest style regret, an indication of his sartorial-at-all-times approach to dressing.
Possessing a tailoring CV that rivals the best, Iclodean has worked for brands including Massimo Dutti and Boggi Milano. If there was one word to describe his look, it would be “classy”. Every outfit, every occasion: classy. Which is a good rule to live by. “Fashion for me is more about a way of living,” says Iclodean, who is busy growing the Suitsupply brand in the Middle East.
Such is his dedication to good tailoring that it wouldn’t surprise us if he sleeps in a well-cut suit. “If I could only wear one thing for the rest of my life, it would be a suit, pocket square, button-down shirt, loafers and tie. What else do you need?” Well said, sir, we couldn’t agree more.
