The PR

The late Hardy Amies said it best when he declared: “A man should look as if he has bought his clothes with intelligence, put them on with care and then forgotten all about them.” Beyond this guiding principle, the formula for a stylish man is harder to pinpoint. So for 2017’s selection of the Esquire’s Best Dressed Men in the Gulf, we’ve looked at men who wear their clothes with a sense of individuality, confidence and consideration.

Ehab Ammar
33, Egyptian, PR manager, Cartier
“I feel that fashion builds a frame around any activity we do, whether it’s planning our next getaway, preparing to attend a wedding, an outdoor activity or even lounging at home,” says Ehab Ammar, the PR manager of luxury watch and fine jewellery house, Cartier. “A large part of any of these will always be what we choose to wear,” he continues. “Fashion has the ability to elevate any occasion.”

It is this enjoyment that best captures Ammar’s look, which he describes as “Amalfi Coast holiday meets ballroom dance,” a strange-sounding combination but one that in practice works surprisingly well.

He talks with passion about his favourite brands, such as Brunello Cucinelli, Rubinacci, Michael Bastian and Thom Browne, which he describes as either offering a perfect fit, or having demonstrated exceptional quality over the years.

Stating that the only fashion faux pas he can’t stand as a “bad attitude”, you get a sense of his positive outlook. “The best style advice I ever received was to always wear bespoke shirts,” he says. “About a year ago I was introduced to an incredible shirt tailor in Florence, Simone Abbarchi.” Teamed with his Cartier watch, he’s the epitome of style.
