“There are too many cinemas,” said no-one ever. That’s why the clever people from Meraas – the holding company behind the City Walk and The Beach – has decided to put its creative twist on the movie-going experience. Converting the Reel Cinemas at City Walk and The Beach (and a soon to be opened one at Box Park) into a newly branded Roxy Cinemas, the company will be making sweeping changes to the layouts and vibe of the multiplexes.
The initial changes has seen the cinema’s premium offerings now falling under three catagories: The Director’s Lounge (with reclining leather seats and a butler service), The Editor’s Suite (more spacious seating) and The Set (promising Stadium-style seating).
Each of the catagories will have different lighting, different food and different interiors – which sounds a tad better than a chewing gum ridden, non-reclining normal cinema seat. Well, at least there are options.
While the cinemas may not be quite up-and-running at their full potential just yet, plans for further expansion are already afoot with the scheduled opening of another Roxy cinema at the Meraas-owned Box Park.
