We need to talk about the Sonic: The Hedgehog trailer
- Sonic The Hedgehog is a live-action film featuring the titular super-speedy hedgehog
- Fans became enraged with the portrayal of Sonic after images were leaked online
- The new trailer for the film hasn’t done much to dissuade the public over Sonic’s on-screen animation
- Sonic The Hedgehog is voiced by Ben Shwartz, and also features Jim Carey and James Marsden
It would be fair to say that the internet is not enamored with the new Sonic The Hedgehog movie.
The first screenshots of the world’s fastest marsupial had fanboys up in arms. Something to do with why they decided to make Sonic look, well… really, really weird.
For starters, he’s got furry arms and legs. And then there’s the really creepy fact that Sonic appears to have very human-looking teeth.
The new trailer for Sonic The Hedgehog hasn’t helped matters for the Paramount-developed film either. The film is being widely panned by the online masses, on everything from the backing track – ‘Gangsta’s Paradise’ – to James Marsden’s oafish performance.
The one saving grace appears in the form of Jim Carrey, who seems to have gotten a nod of approval for his portrayal as Ivo Robotnik (aka Dr Eggman).
The trailer picks up after Sonic comes to the attention of the US military, after knocking out the power grid due to some mysterious energy (blue speed force, what have you). Panicked, the military calls in Robotnik to investigate the little blue critter.
Sonic is voiced by Ben Schwartz, James Marsden stars as the Sheriff of Green Hills, and the film also stars Neal McDonough, Tika Su5mpter and Adam Pally. It’s due to hit theatres on November 8th, but not without a few more of these terrible trailers.
Responding to the trailer, Sonic’s original creator Yuji Naka took to Twitter to explain exactly what he didn’t like about the movie iteration of Sonic. According to his Tweet (which was originally in Japanese and translated) the major issues stem from his body ratio, as well as his bare hands (Sonic wears gloves, natch).
Sonic The Hedgehog is schedule to release here in the UAE in November 2019.
