A commonly used gesture by Arab parents across the region has just been turned into an emoji by Apple in its latest iOS 14.2 update.
The touching of your fingertips together while holding out your hand means to wait, or to be patient. It is commonly used by parents to signal their children to calm down (it can also be used as a subtle way to say no to a nagging child’s request).
The emoji is just one of more than a hundred that have been added to Apple’s emoji keyboard. Others include the less culturally significant boomerang, dodo, and roller skate.
One of the new additions to the latest major iOS update was the ability to search for various emoji using the Apple keyboard. That will make finding these new emoji that much easier.
Apple’s iOS 14.2 update brings along with it revamped ‘now playing’ controls on the lock screen, along with new AirPlay 2 controls in the control center. You can now also add Shazam controls to the Control Center. The update contains various bug fixed.
You can check out the new emoji right now if you upgrade to iOS14.2 beta via the settings > general tab. Or wait a few weeks until it’s made totally public.
In other news, the big rumour that Apple will not include a wall charger or wired headphones in its next-generation iPhone 12 appear to be true. But niggles aside, that’s no bad thing for these reasons.
