In 2015, a Pakistani government worker named Asif Faza Rana announced he was no longer friends with a man named Mudasir. The internet was never the same.
Now, six years later, Rana will be putting the image he once shared on his Facebook, which has come to be known as ‘Friendship Ended with Mudasir’, for sale as an NFT—and he’s doing it on World Friendship Day, of course.
While the original image has since inspired countless homages and imitations in the Friendship ended with X / Now Y is my best friend format, the original could be digitally yours, as the non-fungible token will be for sale tomorrow, July 30.

Rana confirmed it on his Facebook below.
“We are about to mint and auction a 1/1 NFT of the meme ‘Friendship Ended with Mudasir’ for World Friendship Day (30th July),” said a story by Samaa.
“Thematically, it would be a great time to market and launch this meme, due to its impactful relevance,” it added.
NFTs have become a popular, and hotly debated, tool to allow people to purchase digital artefacts via crypto/blockchain tech. An NFT artwork from Mike Winkelmann sold for $69 million in March, which set off a hot debate about the new technology.
Other memes have gone on sale in the recent past, including the popular ‘Overly Attached Girlfriend’ meme of internets gone by that sold for $417,000 in an NFT auction in April.
And if you’re worried about poor Mudasir, don’t worry, the two of them rekindled their friendship in late 2015.
“Before Salman always thought that Mudasir was best for me,” Asif said at the time. “When we — me and Mudasir — were often angry to each other, Salman always made a compromise between us, but when Salman and me were angry with each other, Mudasir never made a compromise between us.”
“Your ego seeks conflict; it loves nothing better than to win battles for you, sadly as it wins, you often lose respect and friendships. If you wish problems to persist, keep blaming everyone and everything but yourself, for he who persistently blames and criticise only fans the flames of hatred and controversy…….so from now Mudasir Ismail Ahmed and SAlman AHmad Naqash both are my best friends …..”
