The Dubai Mangrove Forest is not open to the public yet, but here’s a video of its progress

One of the biggest mangrove forests around is currently growing in the south of Dubai, as the Jebel Ali Wildlife Sanctuary will be home to the Dubai Mangrove Forest.

While the forest technically opened in April 2021, the forest is still not open to the public, though there are plans to have it open in the future.

The forest covers a staggering 500,000 sq meters, with one million mangrove trees in the process of being planted as well as 600 species of plants and animals.

If you’re curious how it’s coming, the Dubai Media Office has released a short clip.

Watch below:

The Dubai Mangrove Forest, officially called P&G’s Dubai Mangrove Forest is a joint venture between Procter & Gamble and the Emirates Marine Environmental Group, that will include coral reefs, mangroves, sea grass beds, a beach, as well as animal rescue and species preservation activities.

It will total 15km of mangroves and 6km of wetlands, and is part of Dubai’s plan to have 60% of its land become forest.

Mangroves are found across the UAE both north and south, and are a huge part of its natural environment and house a lot of its most precious wildlife, as well as help reduce the country’s carbon footprint. The expansion of the UAE’s mangroves will help do this even more, and is part of Dubai’s 2040 Urban Master Plan, which calls for the doubling of green spaces in the emirate.
