Sony has solved a problem no one knew they had, with a new lamp wireless speaker

Ever wish your Bluetooth speaker looked more like an old-timey flame lantern? Nope, us neither.

But that hasn’t stopped Sony from producing a wireless speaker that looks like an old paraffin lamp.

The LSPX-S2 Glass Sound Speaker features a brushed chrome base and a glass body that holds a bright LED light that can be set to shine at 32-levels to ‘set the mood’. It also comes with a ‘candelight’ mode that will flicker.

According to Sony, the round lamp-like shape will fill the entire room with sound thanks to what it calls Advanced Vertical Drive technology.

According to Sony, the glass (which is actually not glass but a clear resin) will act as a tweeter, and vibrates to amplify the sound. As the tube-shaped tweeter is far bigger than most in-speaker versions, it should create a richer sound with minimal loss of volume.

The speaker weighs just over a kilogram, and gives you eight hours of battery life on a single charge.

More importantly, it comes with a multi-room feature which will let you connect up to ten of these speakers together to play the same music all around your house (as well as give you a paraffin lamp in every room).

You can connect your smartphone to the speaker either via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi – but unfortunately it won’t work via Apple AIrPlay, Google Chromecast or Amazon’s Alexa.

The LSPX-S2 is part of Sony’s Lifestyle range of technology products. It’s available right now for US$450.
