The gaming company wants to break into the boardroom, with new productivity-focused Razer Book

Razer is better-known for its screaming fast gaming computers and peripherals. But like any good teenage gamer, it now wants to grow up and is aiming for a high-end corporate job. Hence, the Razer Book.

This will be the first laptop that isn’t designed with gaming in mind, and follows-on from the Razer Productivity Suite of peripherals launched last month (full review here).

The laptop is sleek, portable and built for productivity in mind. Razer decided to ditch the matt black and glowing neon-green logotype (which is probably for the best if you’re going to be taking this into meetings with you).

You get an 11th generation Intel Core i7 processor, with speeds up to 4.7GHz (if you don’t mind overclocking) with built-in Intel Iris XE graphics and 16GB of RAM.

The 13.4-inch screen will come in two flavours: Full HD+ or an Ultra HD touch-friendly version. You also get a decent webcam with a four-array microphone for better Zoom calls. It will go the distance (and last for even the longest of meetings) with a battery life of 14-hours, and can charge around 25 per cent in just 30 minutes of being plugged in.

“The new Razer Book 13 is the culmination of a decade’s worth of experience in developing and crafting high-end gaming machines,” says senior vice president and general manager Brad Wildes in a launch release.

“Sleek, powerful, and compact, the Razer Book 13 breaks out from the boring crowd and delivers prosumers an experience not yet realized in a work laptop.”

We’re a little sad to see a built-in Intel graphics (and not even, say, a portable Nvidia MX-range proper graphics card) considering Razer is known for its graphical performance, but we suspect the Razer Book is all about changing people’s expectations of the brand.

This is not a laptop for work (and then a bit of game playing on the side).

The Razer Book 13 costs US$1,200. It is expected to hit shelves in the Middle East in time for December (but you can pre-order it right here).
