HP’s Spectre Folio sets the standard for what laptops could *and should* be in 2019.
It’s a classic-style laptop (no twisty bendy weirdness here) that is loving wrapped in leather, making it visually and tactiley different from just about any other laptop on the market. The result is one of the most interesting notebooks of recent years.
The most interesting aspect of the Spectre Folio is obviously that leather material, and it’s worth noting that it isn’t a case. As the Folio-name suggests, the leather is integrated into the laptop’s metal frame, making this more a futuristic Filofax than traditional laptop.
The leather – which HP says was harvested from the manufacturing of other leather accessories – comes in burgundy, and gives the Folio a distinct look and feel.
The finish wraps around the top of the screen and the bottom of the keyboard, meaning when you type your palms rest on the material. As such, there are no exposed corners or sharp edges, and when folded entire thing looks like a posh leather accessory than laptop. Why leather? Because it’s one of the most durable materials on earth, and is naturally waterproof and flame-resistant. It also creates a natural hinge and a flexible form-factor, two positives when it comes to making laptops.
Speaking at the launch of the Spectre Folio, George Rouppas – HP’s Country Category Manager for PS Middle East, KSA and Turkey – only had good things to say about the revolutionary device. “The HP Spectre Folio is the PC reinvented, achieving the perfect balance of luxury design and cutting-edge engineering. It combines sophisticated style with incredible versatility to deliver an Always-Connected PC experience our customers are looking for.”
“HP continues to create the world’s most exciting devices that are leading the PC category into a new era of innovation. By listening to the needs of our customers and leveraging our design and engineering capabilities, HP is setting new benchmarks for the industry.”

And it’s not just a pretty face. Under the hood you get up to 16GB of memory, and up to 1 terabyte of solid state storage. That 13-inch display is crisp and clear, and the Specre Folio also boasts one of the smaller motherboards in the industry – making he most of Intel’s 8th generation Core i7 processor.
One key characteristic of the Spectre Folio is the ability to get stuff done just about everywhere. Thank’s to that leather case and some clever natural hinges, this device can be used in a variety of positions, including regular laptop mode, to tablet mode to raised touchscreen tablet mode. You can even lay it down direct on the table and – using HP’s clever provided stylus pen – take notes the old fashioned way.
The HP Spectre Folio is available right now in the UAE at select retailers in Bergundy, with an Intel Core i7 processor for a starting price of AED8099.
