Your next car might just help save the oceans

Your next Jaguar or Land Rover interior might just be made out of recycled plastic.

Jaguar land Rover has announced that it will now be offering all interiors from a material called Econyl, which is produced from recycled plastics gathered from the ocean. According to the company, that will help reduce its carbon footprint a whopping 90 per cent.

While the two luxury car marquis are better known for their plush, leather and wood interiors, it’s perhaps best they join the rest of us in 2020.

Don’t expect rough edges and hard plastic, however. Econyl is a soft, supple material which has been used by many other luxury brands including Breitling.

The company that makes it is called Aquafil, and claims to save more than 70,000 barrels of oil for every 10,000 tonnes of Econyl produced. And for every tonne of waste plastic removed from the ocean, that’s a very good thing for the environment.

The idea is for both Jaguar and Land Rover to make use of Econyl in its carpets, and then perhaps upgrade them to seat upholstery and parts of the dash.

In other news, Lamborghini has a new graphite black Urus that would make for a pretty good second car for Batman. It comes in stealth shades of black, along with neon green highlights.
