If you’ve ever driven on the road in the GCC, there’s a high percentage chance that at some point you will have come across a Toyota Land Cruiser (probably in white) crowding up your rear-view mirror as it sits about a quarter inch from your rear bumper. If you’re nodding in agreement to this, then the reason is probably because there are more Toyota Land Cruisers on the road in the GCC than any other car.
In a global study based on global sales numbers since 2015 from the website carinurance.ae, the Land Cruiser came out as the ‘most popular’ car in 10 different countries – predominately in the Middle East, with UAE, Lebanon, Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar on the list.
The four-wheel-drive is Toyota’s longest-running line and has sold over ten million units around the world.
On a global level Toyota also tops the charts with the always reliable Toyota Corolla proving to be the most popular vehicle in 48(!) different countries. Having launched back in 1966, the Corolla has consistantly been one of the planet’s best selling cars since 1974. The report states that in 2019, the Corolla was estimated to have sold around 1.48 million units, followed by the Ford F-Series (approx 1 million) and the Toyota Rav-4 (966,000).
According to carinsurance.ae all data was sourced from BestSellingCarsBlog’s Sales Data, taking the most popular car for the most recent full year available.
