After a long week of teasing its new concept, Bugatti has finally unveiled its latest prototype: the Bolide has X-shaped taillights and 1,825 horses under the hood.
That is an awful lot of power, and while Bugatti has not confirmed the car’s top speed it should come in “well over” 500 kilometres per hour.
Bugatti has said that the Bolide is its most extreme, uncompromising, fastest and lightest vehicle concept. You get an 8-litre quad-turbo W16 engine, which Bugatti says will get that 1,825 horsepower.
For context, Bugatti’s current fastest production car is the Chiron Super Sport 300+ which can hit speeds of 500kph and has ‘just’ 1,600 horsepower.
What makes the Bolide extra fast isn’t just its large engine. The lightweight design also deserves credit, and the Bolide weighs 1.2 tonnes. That is extremely light for a hypercar. Bugatti says that the car features 60 per cent more carbon-fibre than previous models.
For the first time, we are showing what the W16 engine is really capable of,” CEO Stephan Winkelmann said in a statement.
“We have freed the vehicle of all baggage and have illustrated and combined the engine with the lightest possible chassis to create the ultimate Bugatti and to ensure the ultimate driving experience. With the Bolide, we are presenting our interpretation of a Bugatti track car of modern times to Bugatti enthusiasts all over the world and finally make their most fervent wishes come true.”
Bugatti hasn’t said when or even if the Bolide will go beyond the prototype stage. If it were to sell the track-only racer, however, you can expect a pricetag that would sit between the Pur Sport (US$3.6 million) and the Divo (US$5.4 million).
In other news, three incredibly rare Alfa Romeo cars are going up for auction.
