The Alfa Romeo Berlina Aerodinamica Tecnica concept cars are expected to fetch a pretty penny under the hammer

These days we see a cool concept car released almost every week.

Yes, it’s an inside look into the minds of automakers, but it has become all too easy for a car marquis to get a fresh-faced design student to put together a few renders of a motor that will never see the light of day.

But there was a time in the auto making industry when the concept car was an actual, physical product. The concept car represented what the car maker was capable of, without being constrained by things such as cost or production.

Nothing exemplifies this like Alfa Romeo’s Berlina Aerodinamica Tecnica concept cars, built in 1953 and 1954.

All three of these cars are going up for auction as a single lot (for the first time in history).

The cars were put together as part of a collaboration between Alfa and Bertone, to explore using aerodynamics in road cars. The result was this trio of motors that look achingly beautiful.

The three cars were bought by their respective owners and then brought together in one location in the early 90s. Since then, the cars have been doing the rounds in car museums around the world.

All three will cross the auction block on October 28, 2020. The opening bid is currently set to US$14 million.
