Ferrari has unveiled its new Portofino M; the next evolution of its current entry-level Portofino GT convertible.
The Portofino has done very well for Ferrari over the last few years, and so Ferrari has gone with the “ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mantra for the new M model. That’s not to say it is identical.
The Portofino M comes with lightly re-sculpted air vents on the front bumper, and a new rear bumper along with a redesigned diffuser. That’s where the exterior changes begin and end.
The M stands for ‘modificata’ or the Italian word for modified. Ferrari has used the M-moniker before, namely to designate a model that has received a significant technical upgrade.
That stays true here, as the new Portofino has an upgraded front-mounted twin-turbo 3.9-litre V8 engine. You now get 612 horses under the hood (up from the previous models 591). The Portofino GT actually had silencers fitted to its pipes; Ferrari has gone ahead and removed those so you’ll really be able to hear the roar of that engine.
The Portofino M remains more or less the same as the previous model, complete with a 10.3-inch center touchscreen, and twin TFT displays set around an analogue tachometer. There’s also a 7-inch touchscreen for the passenger.
Ferrari has not said when the Portofino M will arrive on roads here in the Middle East, nor for how much it will cost.
However, we do know that it is destined for sale in Europe around April 2021, and it will cost around US$240,000 when it lands over there.
