What speedster doesn’t enjoy a matte black wrap on their car? BMW is taking this trend to a whole new level with Vantablack, that’s said to be ‘the world’s blackest black’.
Officially debuting next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show from September 10-22, people will get a look at the BMW X6 coupe in a special Vantablack wrap.
Vantablack is a pigment invented by Surrey NanoSystems and it absorbs 99.96% of light. The pigment is made of carbon nanotubes, tubes that are thinner than even a human hair, they are packed in a way so tight that light enters the pigment but cannot escape the maze-like configuration of the tubes.
Vantablack is so dark in fact that it appears to make objects look 2-D, losing any design features or depth. If you’re not in the market for a 2-D car, fear not as the BMW X6 has a variant of the pigment that allows for a small amount of reflection. Still, it’s probably going to hide any scrapes or dents well.
According to BMW, the one of a kind X6 is the first car to ever use the Vantablack creation. Thankfully this car has some serious twin headlights and taillights, handy considering that cars literally wouldn’t be able to see it at night otherwise.
