Audi has announced it’s moving into the micro-mobility game, with the introduction of the E-Tron scooter.
The new concept was announced yesterday, and is supposedly a scooter-skateboard hybrid for ‘sporty riders’. Audi’s design team said they were inspired by the multi-modality trend that’s currently all the rage.
Without a rider, the E-Tron scooter looks like a standard electric scooter. However, once someone’s on top, its skateboard-esque handing becomes evident. Instead of facing forward, riders stand to the side just as a skateboard. One hand is used for balance, and the rider must lean in and out to turn.
The battery is located in the handlebar, which also has a digital display telling riders the battery status. When the E-Tron scooter brakes, it captures that energy and puts it back in the battery. It has a maximum range of 20-kilometres.
The E-Tron Scooter weighs just 11.7 kilograms and can be folded up for storage.
The E-Tron scooter isn’t just a concept, either. It’s going to be released in 2020 and cost around US$2,240.
