Vintage style meets contemporary tech

BMW is marking the 50th birthday of its legendary motorcycle with new R nineT /5.

It’s a bit of a mouthful to say, but the new motorbike blends legendary 5-series design with a host of modern-day technologies.

The 5-series has been in production since 1969, and over the years has cemented its legendary status among motorcycle aficionados thanks to iconic models such as the R 50/5, R 60 and R75/5.

The new R nineT /5 anniversary model pays homage to those legendary vehicles, by marrying the line’s vintage style with some of BMW’s best two-wheeled innovations.

References to the past are many, with chrome rear-view mirrors and exhaust manifold, as well as the two-person seat’s white-piped lining.

The 1,170cc two-cylinder engine delivers 110-horsepower. The new model will also come equipped with ABS brakes, an ASC stability system and heated seats and handlebars.

BMW is yet to release prices or availability dates for the new model. However it has says it will join its Heritage range of motors.
