As part of its centenary celebrations, British Airways is looking at the history and future of flight

British Airways is celebrating 100 years of operation this year and is doing so in style.

It will be taking over the Saatchi Gallery in London in August, for a new exhibit entitles BA 2119: Flight of the Future.

The show will give visitors a glimpse of what air travel would look like over the next 100 years. New images are fresh from the gallery showcase ultra-modern flying machines, including those with see-through floors.

Developed in collaboration with the Royal College of Art, the exhibition will imagine how advanced jet engines, hyper-personalised service, automation, artificial intelligence, health and entertainment will develop over the next 20, 40, 60, and 100-years in the future.

“Our ‘BA 2119: Flight of the Future’ exhibition explores what the customer experience of the future will look like, pushing the boundaries of imagination and exploring how we, and future generations, will travel the globe,” said BA Chairman and CEO Alex Cruz in a press release.

The exhibit itself isn’t based on British Airways pipe-dreams, either. Each exhibit is based on independent research on the Aviation industry.

Along with exploring the future, visitors will get to travel back in time via virtual reality experiences called ‘Fly’ which travels all the way back to Leonardo Da Vinci’s first imaginings of flight, to the Wright Brother’s first historic flight on Kitty Beach.

Travellers will also be able to see a faithful recreation of British Airways’ first-ever passenger flight, from London to Paris on August 25, 1919.
