The electric E-Type from The Royal Wedding is almost here

Yes, after unveiling the concept at the Royal Wedding earlier this summer, Jaguar has announced that you’ll soon be able to buy its all-electric reboot of the classic E-Type.

We don’t know how much it’ll cost yet, but the E-Type Zero is exactly the same model which Prince Harry and Meghan Markle drove away from their wedding ceremony in this May. It’s pretty much identical to the original E-Type from 1961, but with much less of a tendency to contribute to the slowly unspooling ecological apocalypse we all face, which is nice.

While it looks a lot like the original, there are a few little tweaks here and there. Jaguar says the E-Type Zero’s lithium-ion powertrain is as powerful as its original straight-six petrol engine. It’s got a touchscreen “infotainment” display in the dashboard and LED headlights. It’ll hit 60mph from a standing start in less than seven seconds too.

On top of that, Jaguar says it “will soon be offering electric powertrain conversions that preserve the looks, handling and performance of original E-types”. That means owners of original E-Types will be able to keep enjoying their cars without worrying that they’ve accidentally torn off the rear bumper.  Jaguar also says that the conversions will be completely reversible.
