When it comes to the future of cars, sheer imagination can take you miles. And that’s exactly what Volkswagen has done with its newest concept. Yes, after recently showing off the van of the future, it’s time for a driver-less car.
It may seem unrealistic, but not to Volkswagen. This car could really become a reality in the future. Remember those pods at the Dubai airport? Well, that is what Sedric (as in self-driving) looks like; just a bit more friendly and much more futuristic.
Described by Volkswagen as a ‘comfortable lounge on wheels’; with an OLED screen which is; just like everything nowadays, implemented with augmented reality features. And don’t you worry environment-geeks, this car is completely electric.
The futuristic ‘Siri-on-wheels’, has no steering wheel or pedals, just a very smart system that recognises users, allows doors to open automatically and then discusses distance, the time taken, traffic situations, routes; and of course, the music.
Don’t get it twisted when I compare it to airport pods, because the seats are in nowhere comparable. Birch leather upholstery, with air purifying plants to keep you comfortable at all times.
The car, which was completely built out of scratch, was first presented in Geneva on March 6, before making an appearance at Auto Shanghai in April finally making its way earlier this week to Cityscape, Dubai.
The German firm said: ‘Sedric will drive the children to school and then take their parents to the office, look independently for a parking space, collect shopping that has been ordered, pick up a visitor from the station and a son from sports training – all at the touch of a button, with voice control or with a smartphone app – fully automatically, reliably and safely.’
