With the inclusion of the word ‘superfast’ in the name of the new Ferrari 812 Superfast, the Italian marque has given itself little room to hide. Unless of course intends to ‘hide’ on the horizon, accelerating away from you with rapid speed.
Yes, the Prancing Horse has taken to the 87th Geneva Motor Show, to introduce the most powerful car Ferrari has ever produced: the 812 Superfast.
Having built its reputation 70 years ago with a V12 roaring under the hood, the new 6.5-litre, V12 engine of the Superfast looks to recapture some of that old magic by producing a massive 780 horse power and a maximum power output of 8,500 revs per minute. It can crack 100kph in under 3 seconds (2.8seconds to be exact). In layman’s terms, no other front-engine production car has ever produced numbers like that.
With power like that, Ferrari would be missing a trick if they didn’t try to tune that raw explosive power into a symphony that is music to the ears of petrol heads.
The 812’s dual-clutch transmission tops it off that performance really was at the fore front of the engineers minds. To make the most of the V12 engine, the system has super specific gear ratios, with shorter up and down shifting times, which ultimately helps sharpen throttle response.
For Scuderia fans, the two-box style design with its high tail will bring a smile to the faces of those remembering the 365 GTB4 from 1969. The bonnet has some classic air intakes sculpted into it and the wheel arches are supposed to render a muscular feel.
Basically, to give yourself an idea of this car, think of something aggressive. Aggressive and powerful. A cluster of aerodynamic solutions also find themselves getting involved, including active flaps at the front of the underbody as well as towards the rear, producing increased down force. The car will be launched in a new colour, Rosso Settanta, to celebrate the brands 70th anniversary.
