World of Warcraft launched back in 2004, but it shows no signs of slowing down. The next chapter in the massive multiplayer game – Shadowlands – has just gone down in the history books as the fastest-selling PC game in history.
In just 24 hours, the game sold 3.7 million copies announced developer Blizzard. That overtook the previous record-holder, Diablo III (which incidentally, is also made by Blizzard).
The developers have said that engagement has also been increasing, and has led to record number of players on monthly or long-term subscriptions. Total in-game player time has almost doubled compared to other expansions.
“It’s been a huge thrill to enter this whole new dimension of the Warcraft universe together with millions of players around the world,” said J. Allen Brack, president of Blizzard.
“It’s been equally rewarding to see players enjoying all of the new features and content in Shadowlands—whether they’re exploring new aspects of their characters with the Covenants or setting foot in WoW for the first time with the new-player experience in Exile’s Reach— and there’s much more to come.”
The Shadowlands expansion is available right now via Blizzard.
