Bored? Play videogames

The gaming industry is doing well given the coronavirus pandemic; so it should be no surprise that its chief video arbiter – Twitch – is doing well also.

According to research by Finbold, there were almost 3.5 million new users who signed up for the platform in the recent five months.

Twitch is currently breaking all records when it comes to user numbers. Earlier in the year, it said it had almost 4 million active streamers (people who will talk to their audience while playing video games).

That number has almost doubled given the pandemic.

According to statistics website Sullygnome, the most popular streaming topics appear to be ‘just chatting’ where hosts talk to their audience, League of Legends games and Valorant – the title from Riot Games which has just been released.

According to the website, League of Legends has a total of 706 million hours of watching just this year.

Much of Twitch’s success comes from lockdown measures put in place due to the coronavirus.
