Video game director Hideo Kojima has said he’s looking to move into filmmaking via his company Kojima Productions.
The game director – who previously helmed series such as Metal Gear Solid and new game Death Stranding – has long been a film aficionado.
Kojimas games have long been famous for their use of movie-like cinematics and exposition. Metal Gear Solid IV, for example, has been teased for having as many cut scenes as playable areas of the game.
Speaking at the launch of his latest game Death Stranding, the director told the BBC that “in the future, Kojima Productions will also start making films.”
The reason is simple, says Kojima: as online streaming expands into gaming, pretty soon movies, TV shows and video games will all be competing for attention.
He did not mention when his move into film would take place.
Death Stranding already features a many film and television actors, including Norman Reedus from The Walking Dead, Mads Mikkelson from Casino Royale, Lea Seydoux from Spectre, and Linsey Wagner from the Bionic Woman.
Death Stranding is out on November 8 on PlayStation 4.
