The trickle of details about the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Project Scarlett has become a flow of inconsistently reliable bits and pieces which are constantly being debunked and rebunked, which is an exciting point in the life cycle of any new gaming tech.
However, one thing that’s been opaque about the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett is exactly how much you’re going to have to fork out for the kind of paradigm-shifting experience that both machines are promising.
Analyst Michael Pachter has told GamingBolt that in his learned opinion, “the specs suggest AED1,200 or so,” which doesn’t sound bad at all when you consider that if you wanted a lag-free 8K 120Hz gaming experience 15 years ago you’d have had to go shoplifting at Nasa.
Pachter added that he had a hunch that the two tech giants would force each other’s prices down.
“Microsoft will announce an AED1,200 and Sony will follow suit,” he said. See! Competitive capitalism delivers for the little guy yet again. Obviously, we don’t know if this hunch is a good Columbo-style hunch or a bad Richard III-style hunch and it might very well end up being wrong as analysts often are.
As a case in point, the @PS5Console Twitter account – it’s a rumours and news account – tweeted that it had spoken to Pachter and been quoted AED1,800 for the new consoles. So, in conclusion: nobody quite nows as yet.
